View of Riga

The Old City of Riga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a great view copied from google images with the following attribution.
Hopefully, when we arrive in Riga we'll have some of our own photos to add.

Learning Lavietis

Bob and I are working on becoming Roberts and Serila Dzaliji, our names as they would be spelled for correct pronunciation to the Latvian ear.
We have had two lessons in Latvian, learning the alphabet and the sounds the letters make as well as the verbs to be, go, work, and live for the three tenses, present, past and future. We haven't even begun to tackle the noun endings. The nouns are declined so we have case endings to learn for them as well. Even proper names have the endings change so that is why there is an "i" on the end of Dzaligi (Jolleys) and an "a" at the end of Seril (Cheryl) and and "s" at the end of Robert (Roberts). Bob decided he will go by Roberts since that is a Latvian name and he will have a name day. A day when people drop in to your place, sort of like an open house, to celebrate your name day.
